Hi - I'm the person behind Grupop.
For 17 years I worked as a primary and special education teacher. Before that, in another life, I worked in software - but teaching was where I ended up, and where I stayed. If you've ever stood in front of a class trying to keep thirty pupils engaged, encouraged, and pulling in the same direction, you'll know it's one of the most rewarding and most demanding jobs there is.
In this past year I realised my body could no longer sustain the physical demands of the classroom, and I had to step away from teaching. That was a hard thing to come to terms with. But somewhere in the middle of it, I realised I still had something to offer - just in a different form. I dusted off my old software background, started learning again, and Grupop is what came out of it.
Grupop is a group-based rewards platform for Irish classrooms. The idea is simple: reward groups of pupils for working well together, watch their progress build, and celebrate it together as a class. It's built around the kind of positive, low-pressure encouragement that actually works with young children - no leaderboards pitting kids against each other, no complicated setup, just a bit of fun that nudges good behaviour and teamwork in the right direction.
A few principles guide everything in Grupop:
Keep it simple for teachers.
Teachers are stretched thin enough. Grupop is designed to be quick to set up, effortless to run in the middle of a busy school day and also provides an ever-growing suite of teacher resources to make the classroom workflows as streamlined as possible.
- Rewarding a whole group with a single tap is far quicker than tracking thirty pupils individually
- Pop progress can be triggered any time you like - there's no fixed schedule to keep up with, it fits around your day, or week, or month!
Celebrate the group, not the individual.
Grupop rewards groups working together, building a sense of shared achievement rather than competition.
- Pop Progress celebrates the whole group together when they hit a milestone - everyone shares in the moment
- Progress builds as a team effort, so quieter children feel just as much a part of the success as anyone else
Boost engagement through ownership and pride.
The uniqueness and individuality of every pupil is one of the most challenging aspects of teaching but undoubtedly one of the most fascinating and rewarding. Grupop attempts to embrace that as a helping hand rather than a distraction.
- Each pupil is given their own Pop Pal avatar to customise as they please. Every pop rewarded pushes groups closer to sharing their Pop Pal customisations with the class
Protect the children.
Only first names are ever stored - no surnames, no personal details. Privacy and child safety are built into the design from the ground up, not bolted on after.
- Pupils only ever see their own first name and their Pop Pal - nothing more
- There's nothing for children to sign up for and no personal information to give away
Make it joyful.
Learning and encouragement should be fun. The little celebrations, the characters, the moments of delight - they're there for a reason.
- Every pop comes with a little animation and sound that children genuinely look forward to
- Pupils can customise their own Pop Pal, making the rewards feel personal and theirs
Grupop will continue to grow over time but every decision in it comes from the same place: using years spent in different classrooms as a means of offering whatever little assistance I can to others who are walking that same path. I get you and I hope in some way you feel that I have got your back.
Thanks for stopping by.
The Grupop Guy
